What comes to your mind when you read this first? Some transcendental hocus pocus right? What if we told you that it works?

According to Eckhart Tolle, one of the most famous spiritual teachers teaches us how to access reality beyond taught in the self discovery journey. Many of us feel stuck in a certain story about our lives with a mental noise that is being constantly present. Shifting from a surface-level perspective to a deeper awareness is possible, then we transcend personal sense of identity.

When we access the present moment that is where the magic happens. The feeling of being alive comes up with being in the present moment and experiencing it. Eckhart is not the first one to promote the present moment awareness, many spiritual traditions have exalted this topic, but Eckhart explains it in the language of people.

These stories in our life and in our head lead to an exhausted state which is actually more relaxed then your usual state. Eckhart explains that this is because we can’t remember the mind made stories anymore, and the mind made problematic self, and you react by being sleepy. The same thing applies for alcohol or drugs – one may also feel relaxed more carefree and more alive for a certain period of time. But the price to pay is – unconsciousness.

A section of his book A New Earth says:

Instead of rising above thought, you have fallen below it. A few more drinks, and you will have regressed to the vegetable realm. Space consciousness has little to do with being “spaced out.” Both states are beyond thought. This they have in common. The fundamental difference, however, is that in the former, you rise above thought; in the latter, you fall below it. One is the next step in the evolution of human consciousness, the other a regression to a stage we left behind eons ago. (A New Earth, p.229)

Later he continues that seeking for the inner space is not possible since it is not an object. Start enjoying simple things – try listening to the sound of rain. Treat a complete stranger with kindness without expecting something in return.

Whenever there is beauty, kindness, the recognition of the goodness of simple things in your life, look for the background to that experience within yourself. But don’t look for it as if you were looking for something. You cannot pin it down and say, “Now I have it,” or grasp it mentally and define it in some way. It is like the cloudless sky. It has no form. It is space; it is stillness, the sweetness of Being and infinitely more than these words, which are only pointers. When you are able to sense it directly within yourself, it deepens. So when you appreciate something simple— a sound, a sight, a touch—when you see beauty, when you feel loving kindness toward another, sense the inner spaciousness that is the source and background to that experience (A New Earth, p.232.233).

His lessons on accessing the world beyond thoughts through meditation is one of his great speeches where his wisdom is being presented with clarity. If this sounds interesting enough for you make sure you at least check this video of one of his lectures:
